The Story of Louise

Paint:  Spray Painted with Tiffany Turquoise Latex Paint
Fabric:  Anna Maria Horner’s Loulouthi Collection in
“Summer Totem in Tart”

Louise is, by far, my favourite painted piece.  This blue/turquoise colour is my favourite colour right now. It's the perfect match to the blue in the fabric. Anna Maria Horner is such a talented designer, her fabrics have so many vibrant colours to choose a paint colour from.  This chair spray painted so beautifully. The finish is so smooth and the finished sheen is perfect, to the credit of the amazing prep work and painter (me!). Added bonus, the chair is actually comfortable.

In fact, I like, no love the chair so much that I am now re-decorating my living room based on it. I have already sewn some new pillows that I will photograph and share here soon.

Spice Milk Painted Table for Wabi Sabi

This week I had the privilege of hand painting a table for a fibre store in Ottawa's Hintonburg area called Wabi Sabi.

They have a number of these Ikea tables as display tables in the store. The perfect candidate and canvas for a painted furniture makeover.

My client choose the perfect fall colour of Homestead House Milk Paint called "Spice". Its a reddish-orange colour and the closest colour HH Milk Paint has to an orange. A bold colour was exactly what this table was calling for.

The milk paint needed some serious convincing to adhere to the table.  I had to use all of my milk paint product knowledge for this one. It chipped away in the perfect places and with some light distressing on the edges it turned out amazing. I love this colour.

You can go and see the finished product at Wabi Sabi. They graciously allowed me to put up a sign and leave some business cards on the table.  And they have a great classroom/studio space in the store which is where I will hold my Milk Painting Classes. Now on to the next project!

New Blog and New Camera

Well, this is my first post on the Rainbow Nest Blog! This is where I will be documenting and sharing all of my painting adventures and other randomness that is my life. Its been quite a journey to get to this point and I can't wait to share it all here.

And, I am the new proud owner of a Nikon D3200. There is going to be a big learning curve for me for photography but I'm up for the challenge. As much as I love my iPhone it just wasn't cutting it anymore for pictures of the painted furniture for the on-line shop.

I have lots of projects already finished to photograph and write about and lots of projects in the works. Its going to be a busy week of painting. I have a client's piece to hand-paint with Milk Paint and some amazing pieces to spray for the shop. I can't wait to show-and-tell!
